From the minute we met Kristin and Ian, they treated us like family. They treat everyone like they've known them their whole lives.  They are so welcoming and easy to get to know, hilarious, and open. They radiated love and support for each other, so much so, that when we first met them, we just assumed they were already married - they weren't even engaged by then, and hadn't been dating all that long!  It was so refreshing and inspiring, we felt so honoured to be asked to be the ones to photograph their wedding.

It was so great to see them again in August when we travelled to Nelson to photograph their wedding.  It was laughs galore with these two!  We could hear the laughter booming down the hallways as we first arrived at the Hume hotel for bride and groom prep photos, and we're sure it rumbled into the night long after we left.

We loved capturing Kristin and Ian's wedding day, which was done totally their way with the help of the gang at Nelson's Florist. The whole event was embellished with bright purple, and accented with superhero motifs, even the cake. How fun!

Centennial Beach Engagement Session - Bernice and Phil

Bernice and Phil Get Silly at Centennial Beach in Richmond During Their Engagement Session //  Vancouver Wedding Photographers

We've been waiting eagerly for Bernice and Phil's engagement session and their upcoming wedding for some time now!  They're quirky, animated, and so fun to be around. Their smiles and laughter are contagious.  We were so excited to come to Richmond from Victoria to photograph them!

We met up with Bernice and Phil around Centennial Beach in Richmond for their engagement session.  It was windy and cool that day, so we opted to start our session in a more sheltered area, amongst some gorgeously coloured autumn trees.  After a bit of walk through the trails, we made our way to the beach to play on the logs and race down the shore.

Phil and Bernice enjoy cosplay, and it only seemed right to pull out their homemade, expressive BomberMan heads to have some fun! We were so impressed with the way Phil and Bernice embrace doing things their way - from the custom engagement ring, their enthusiasm for cosplay, and the unique details they are putting into their wedding.  We're so looking forward to their December wedding!

Cannon Beach Wedding in Oregon - Paula and Cameron

Paula and Cameron's Destination Wedding in Cannon Beach Oregon // Vancouver Island Wedding Photographers

It had been a while since we saw Paula and Cameron: their Sea to Sky Gondola engagement session was way back in March, so their September wedding at Cannon Beach felt like it was going to be eons away!  We were giddy when September rolled around and we were hitting the road from Victoria to Oregon for their wedding. 

We were also excited to visit Oregon again, and specifically a place that holds a lot of emotional value to us as well!  We got engaged at Cannon Beach, so our hearts were a'flutter at the idea of photographing Paula and Cameron exchanging their vows at the same place. 

It was a true event!  For their ceremony, Paula and Cameron picked a secluded area on the northern end of the beach, away from tourists and beach-goers, accessed by a long narrow trail through the beach grass with lead to a clearing of fine sand, surrounded by a circle of beach grass, overlooking blue waters, and cliffy rock formations. What a treat to watch the expression on their guests faces as they stepped out on to the beach to watch Paula and Cameron's ceremony.

After a gorgeous ceremony we wandered the beach with Paula and Cameron, and followed them up to their reception venue, HayStack Gardens at SurfSand Resort.  CC of Roa Luxury Floral Designs happens to be a family member to these two, and created such a gorgeous, airy, beach garden atmosphere for Paula and Cameron's reception.  What a creative and beautiful scene! 

With games, cocktails, dancing, and Pebblebooth fun, we followed the antics into the night, even finding a few minutes to sneak the newlyweds off as the sun set.  When the night crept in, Paula, Cameron and their guests headed down to the beach to round their day off with a midnight bon fire, chatting, and music.

Vancouver Elopement at Spanish Banks - Elizabeth and Doug

Elizabeth and Doug Elope at Spanish Banks in Vancouver // BC Wedding Photographers

It's not every day that we get to shoot an elopement on the beach right here in Vancouver!  While the idea of eloping may bring visions of Mexico or Costa Rica, for Elizabeth and Doug the beach of choice was Vancouver's own Spanish Banks.  Beautiful in its own right, with views to the mountains and city, it made the perfect backdrop for them to get married with only their moms and a marriage commissioner present.  As they said their "I do's", the hubbub of action at low tide continued around them, complete with a couple dogs who were keen to say hi and see what we were up to.  

Elizabeth and Doug were considerate enough to bring a cupcake for the marriage commissioner as it was also his birthday that day!  After signing papers on their backs, a bit of celebratory champagne for all, this adventurous couple splashed around for some fun portraits.  What an awesome day to capture this elopement at Spanish Banks.  Thanks again, Elizabeth & Doug!

Gambier Island Wedding at Camp Fircom - Katrina and Brian

Katrina and Brian Get Married at Camp Fircom on Gambier Island during a weekend away with family and friends // BC Wedding Photographers

Summer is camping and hiking, and swimming and canoeing and paddleboarding season. Summer is also our busy season, so needless to say, we've started to embrace many more winter activities since we miss out on camping during camping's peak season. SO when Katrina and Brian told us that they were going to be having their wedding at Camp Fircom, and that all their guests would be spending the weekend there, we lost our crackers.  How fun is that?! 

When we first met with Katrina and Brian it was quickly determined they were outdoorsy and adventurous.  They also have these infectious smiles, and warm inviting personalities.  A camp wedding surrounded by close friends and family was such a perfect way for this couple to say their "I Do's", and we were really excited to be there for it.  Not only did Katrina and Brian make their wedding personal by hosting their guests at this remote location, but they also made their own rings!  The two of them travelled to Washington to craft their wedding bands with the help of the gang at With These Rings. 

With a weekend of events, activities and dinners with their guests, Katrina and Brian hosted a heck of a wedding.  All of their guests travelled from the east, the south, and overseas to be their with them, which made it even more special to be part of.

Backyard Wedding in Maple Ridge - Kara Lynn and Kirby

Kara-Lynn and Kirby Get Married on Family Property in Maple Ridge // Vancouver Island Wedding Photographers

We met Kara-Lynn and Kirby over a year ago, and we had a blast with them during their engagement shoot. We could not wait until this year to come from Victoria to photograph their outdoor wedding in Maple Ridge.

We think it's really special when a couple can get married in a place that is personal to them, so a family member's gorgeous country property was such a great place for these two to exchange their vows.  

After the rings were put on and the papers were signed, we hopped in the limo bus with their bridal party and took off to a farm a few roads over.  Kara had driven past this gorgeous red barn every day, and just knew in her heart she wanted her wedding photos done there.  We think we'll have to hire her as a part time location scout, because that farm was fab! 

When we returned to the reception in time for dinner we sat in on speeches, toasts and a wonderfully heartfelt video crafted by a dear friend.  We loved how sentimental, open, honest and welcoming they and their friends and family were the whole day.  It was a very touching wedding... one that had us clutching for our heartstrings.

Lighthouse Park Engagement - Katrina and Brian

Katrina and Brian Have Fun Hiking Around LightHouse Park in West Vancouver // Vancouver Island Wedding Photographers

We met with Katrina and Brian while ago to talk about their Camp Fircom wedding, which they were planning no short notice. Four months of planning to be exact.  We learned a lot about them, from when they first met in Phoenix, all the way to their move to Vancouver.  Above all we learned that Katrina and Brian are an adventurous couple: they hike, they camp, they've climbed, you name it!  It only made sense to do a bit of hiking during their engagement session.  They told us about a hike they enjoy around Light House Park, and we thought it would be perfect to go and walk it with them.

As we made our way to the cliffs, waves crashed on the rocks, clouds danced in the sky and sun began its slow dip behind the mountains.  We clicked away with our cameras as Katrina and Brian explored around many of the embankments, in the hunt for the perfect view.

The Brock House Wedding - Lisa and Andrew

Lisa and Andrew Get Married at The Brock House Restaurant in Vancouver // BC Wedding Photographers

It was a gorgeous, sunny spring day in May when Lisa and Andrew tied the knot. It was really more like midsummer!  We started the day off with our *first* first-look in Lisa's parents backyard. Yes, you read that correctly. First first look!  It was excitement and cheering all around as their bridal party looked on.  Afterwards, Lisa and Andrew held an intimate tea ceremony with family in the living room.  After many congratulations, we headed over to Andrew's for the tea ceremony with his family as well, excited family gathering around.

Before heading to The Brockhouse, Lisa changed out of her gorgeous, flowy, beaded gown, and into a glamorous fitted mermaid dress.  Then, to our delight, her and Andrew had a private second first-look.  It was off to Brockhouse to enjoy some time wandering around Jericho Beach Park with Lisa, Andrew and their bridal party.  Freshly budded willows, green green grass, and warm sunlight created such an elegant atmosphere for these two, leading up to their outdoor ceremony under a huge tree in the Brockhouse yard.  It was touching to watch the smiles on  Lisa and Andrew's faces as they were officially announced husband and wife, and then as they headed down the aisle to be congratulated by their friends and family.

Fort Langley Engagement Session - Ming and Kim

Ming and Kim Explore Fort Langley During Their Engagement Session // Victoria Wedding Photographers

On the day of Ming & Kim's engagement shoot, dark clouds were hovering over the Vancouver area, threatening to downpour at any moment.  And downpour it did!  But only in pockets.  We somehow managed to avoid the rain throughout their whole shoot even though it rained just before and just after.  Talk about perfect! 

We had a great time wandering around Fort Langley area together.  Joining us for a few shots was their cute little pup, Olive.  Ming & Kim were naturals in front of the camera, and Fort Langley made a beautiful backdrop to their shoot.  The rainy day meant it was relatively private, with few people around, and we were free to create to our our hearts' content!

Capilano Suspension Bridge Engagement Session - Sandy and Jeff

Sandy and Jeff Explore Capilano Suspension Bridge During Their Engagement Session in North Vancouver // BC Wedding Photographers

Back in March we announced the launch of our new website, and wanted to celebrate by giving away a very special photo session at Capilano Suspension Bridge.  Sandy and Jeff were easily our most enthusiastic couple, entering the contest the most of anyone.  It paid off, 'cause it was their names we pulled out of the box at the end of the draw.  We couldn't wait to meet them!  

What a pleasure working with Sandy and Jeff, and getting to know them.  If there was an award for most laid back and patient couple, they'd win it for sure!  With ever-present smiles on their faces, they waded with us through crowds of people, precariously perching on swinging bridges, and swaying walk-ways, waiting for the perfect time for us to capture the moments that happened between them.

Pacific Spirit Park and Spanish Banks Engagement Session - Roxanne and Myles

Roxanne and Myles Explore Vancouver in Their Forest and Beach Themed Engagement Session // Victoria Wedding Photographers

We had a great time first meeting Roxanne and Myles to talk about their winter wedding in Whistler.  We talked about their life in Vancouver and all the things they love to do around the city with their son Cohen.  We were sooo looking forward to getting out into the woods for their engagement photos, and to hit the beach with them.  After all,  the beaches and forests are what we love the most, too!

We headed into the woods at Pacific Spirit Park to explore the trails with Roxanne and Myles.  It's always such a great experience to wander the trails, amongst all the trees, with no one else around.  The quiet and isolated area gave us lots of opportunity to get to know more about Roxanne and Myles, and a bit more about their wedding details.

To finish of the evening, we wandered down to Spanish Banks to enjoy a warm and breezy sunset.  Thanks for such a great evening, Roxanne and Myles. We're looking forward to your winter wedding and meeting your friends and family!

UBC and Spanish Banks Engagement - Candy and Tim

Candy and Tim Have Fun Exploring UBC and a Sunset at Spanish Banks During Their Engagement Photos //  BC Wedding Photographers

What an amazing spring it has been in Vancouver this year!  Candy and Tim's engagement shoot was no exception, as we spent a couple hours basking in beautiful sunshine while wandering about UBC Campus and Spanish Banks beach.  The dramatic building seen in the first couple shots is the Pharmaceutical Sciences building at UBC, which is significant to Candy and Tim as they met during their time in the Pharmacy program there!  

When we got down to the Spanish Banks beach it was getting near sunset which made for gorgeous golden light, spilling over into the quiet intimate moments they shared.  It was a pleasure to photograph them, and we can't wait to capture their wedding later this year at Golden Eagle Golf Course!

Milner Chapel & Centennial Lodge Wedding - Halyna and Jason

Halyna and Jason's Vintage-Inspired Wedding in New Westminster //  Vancouver Island Wedding Photographers

Our first glimpse of Halyna was at back in January, at our booth in the “It’s My Wedding” Fair.  Along with her bridesmaids and mom in co-ordinating shirts, Halyna leapt into the photobooth to give it a whirl!  She probably wasn’t expecting to be the winner of our wedding giveaway at the time, but at the end of the weekend, we pulled her strip of photos out from our bucket of 200 entries!

When we got to sit down with Halyna and her fiance, Jason, we learned all about this beautiful blonde and handsome brit, their story, and their autumn wedding plans.

The Milner Chapel in Langley seemed a perfect place to host their ceremony, with the men in their suits, and Halyna in her romantic lace dress.  The cozy quaintness of the chapel created such a welcoming atmosphere for in-town, and out-of-town guests to congregate.   After that, it was off to Queens Park in New Westminster for some photos, and the reception. But first, was a quick stop at a British Pub for the gang to have some post-ceremony, pre-dinner cheers.

The reception was filled with clever kissing games, gorgeous homemade decorations, and of course, delicious food and shots of vodka. The speeches were all so touching and heartfelt, and the dancing was was! What a wedding!

Fairmont Pacific Rim and Stanley Park Wedding - Pegah and Kyle

Pegah and Kyle's Western and Persian Wedding at Fairmont Pacific Rim and Stanley Park // BC Wedding Photographers

We were introduced to Pegah and Kyle by Kiri, a fantastic wedding planner at DreamGroup Productions, whom we worked with last year.  Pegah and Kyle travelled to Vancouver to have their wedding at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, and having only spoke to them over Skype earlier in the year, we were excited to meet these two in person!

With a beautifully decorated sofreh, marble pillars, and big bright windows, Pegah and Kyle’s ceremony site was the perfect spot for their intimate first look, before their guests would arrive.  We couldn’t get over the smiles on their faces as they took each other in, and the way they hardly took their eyes off each other for the rest of the day – stealing glances here and there, and whispering to each other during their ceremony.  After a few intimate moments together, we heading over to Stanley Park to take some lakeside photos within the park.  With lily pads, willows, and ducks swimming about, the small lake was the perfect ambience for Kyle and Pegah, who looked like they were a Renoir come to life.

Pegah and Kyle rejoined their wedding party, family, and friends back at the Fairmont to host both a civil and Persian ceremony.  This was our first time photographing a Persian ceremony, which was such an honour.  The intricate details of each item of Pegah and Kyle’s sofreh were easy to admire.  After blessings, singing, and many congratulations, Pegah and Kyle and their guests made their way to the reception for speeches.  We loved getting to be a fly on the wall for the speeches that evening, the traditional knife dance, their shoe games, and of course, their moves on the dance floor.  We are pretty sure that Pegah and Kyle hold the record for having the most guests on the dance floor at one time.  It was evident by their celebrating, that each and every one of Pegah and Kyle’s guests were over-the-moon excited for this couple’s marriage to each other!

Rainy Stanley Park Engagement - Kim and Kyl

Kim and Kyl Brave Rain to Enjoy Stanley Park in Their Engagement Photos // Victoria Wedding Photographers

Autumn is a pretty wonderful time of year in Vancouver.  Mother Nature offers up a smorgasbord of weather possibilities.  On warm days, the sun can shine through changing leaves like stained glass.  On rainy days, the mist rises up from the mountains like steam from the mugs we cozy up with on days like these.  During Kim and Kyl’s Stanley Park engagement session, we were treated to the entire buffet.

The forecast had been calling for rain all week, and apparently the rest of Vancouver knew about it, and was seeking shelter in cozy apartments, or foggy-windowed coffee shops.  We had the entire park to ourselves, save for a couple runners, faithful to their practice, and a few late-season tourists scouring for that perfect autumn-red maple leaf to bring home as a souvenir.  We met Kim and Kyl while the sun was still peeking from behind the clouds, and the four of us remained collectively optimistic that the rain would hold off.  It didn’t.  And, it didn’t matter a bit. Kim and Kyl did more than just grin and bear the elements, they fully embraced the rain and the chill. As we moved around the park, they spent the shoot keeping each other warm and making each other laugh and smile… even when we took the umbrellas away from them!  Every time we asked if we could experiment with a shot, their response was, “Ya totally, let’s do it. We’ll give it a try!”  We love when our couples trust us this way, even when we ask them to stand right in front of a puddle, while one of us jumps into it, kicks and splashes water around, and the other takes a photo.

Pan Pacific Wedding in Downtown Vancouver - Justine and Devon

Justine and Devon's Rooftop Wedding at the Pan Pacific and Stanley Park in Vancouver // BC Wedding Photographers

If you follow our blog, you know we shoot a lot of weddings in remote locations which are often surrounded by trees, or overlooking the ocean, or have incredible mountain views.  The wonderful thing about Vancouver is that there are a lot of great venues to host weddings, where you can have all of the above!  When Justine and Devon told us their wedding would be downtown, on the rooftop patio of the Pan Pacific, visions of their wedding overlooking Stanley Park, the North Shore mountains, and the Burrard Inlet swam in our heads. This was an exciting adventure for us, because we got a taste of what shooting on the big glass jungle is like, at a venue that was perfectly suited for our city loving couple.

The warmth and sun were out in full swing for Justine and Devon’s wedding, which was perfectly fitting for their pool deck ceremony, and the forest of purple flowers that surrounded them and their guests. As Justine walked down the aisle, even the hotel guests stopped everything they were doing just to stand and stare at how beautiful she looked, mouths gapping open between claps of congratulations.

After a gorgeous ceremony the bride, groom and their dapper wedding party piled into the limo to jet off for photos. The first stop was a must-have photo at Justine’s favourite Vancouver store – Louis Vuitton.  Afterwards we ventured over to Stanley Park where the sun shone through freshly changing leaves, and light up the glass buildings in the city behind them.

After our trip to the park, we returned to the Pan Pacific to join family and friends for dinner, speeches and dancing – where Devon had a few hilarious tricks up his sleeve during the garter toss.

Beach House Restaurant Wedding in Victoria - Tamara and Mike

Tamara and Mike's Sunny Outdoor Beach House Wedding on Vancouver Island // Victoria Wedding Photographers

When couples plan their summer wedding on a beach, they are usually dreaming of sunny days, warmth, gorgeous blue waters that stretch on forever, and being surrounded by friends and family who are excited to have a good time. That’s exactly what Tamara and Mike got on their big day. We all know how gorgeous Victoria can be in the summer time, and that's exactly the kind of wedding day they had. The sun couldn’t have been brighter, the weather couldn’t have been warmer, and the ocean in front of The Beach House Restaurant where they married, could not have been more breathtaking!  

Surrounded by their eager and excited wedding party, Mike and Tamara had their suspenseful and emotional first look on the rooftop of their hotel overlooking Victoria.  After that, we journeyed to a cliffside park for some gravity defying pre-ceremony photos on the rocky edges of the shore – special kudos to Tamara who gracefully maneuvered the cliffs in 6 inch heels!

Tamara and Mike’s beachfront lawn ceremony was followed immediately by a delicious summer dinner in The Beach House Restaurant just north of Victoria, hilarious speeches from friends, heartfelt stories from family, and of course, outrageous partying.

Outdoor Rainforest Wedding in Kitimat BC - Kaylee and Travis

We took a trip up to Kitimat, BC recently to visit Matt’s hometown roots, and to shoot two very beautiful weddings.  Kaylee and Travis were one of our couples that week, and their story is one we truly love.   Kaylee spied Travis for the first time while he was playing a gig with his band.  She told us that the minute she saw Travis’ cape dangling from his shoulders while he was up on stage, she knew he was someone she wanted to know.  It wasn’t a surprise that Travis’ outgoing personality would draw Kaylee’s attention, since she has been a long time lover of cosplay, and has an astonishing gift for creating costumes.  It shouldn’t come as a surprise then, that Travis proposed to Kaylee, in costume, at an Anime Revolution convention.

On the day of the wedding, with the threatening rain, Kaylee and Travis were calm and casual.  The rain didn’t bother them, and they intended to do their outdoor ceremony regardless.  The rain worked out for the better, in our opinion at least.  Mossy forests glow green when they are dampened, distance mountains turn blue, and hovering mist creates a dramatic backdrop, perfectly accentuating Kaylee’s purple hair and white gown, and Travis by her side.

Following some intimate photos in the woods, and by the water, Kaylee and Travis met up with their guests for what would be a hilarious, touching, and memorable reception.  It was evident that their guests and wedding party put a lot of effort into creating speeches, and a slideshow that perfectly represented Kaylee and Travis’ life together.  Even their anime-proposal was printed on their guitar pick favours, a perfect blend of two aspects of their lives.
